Urban Operations: War, Crime, and Conflict , Vol. 2

KeyPoint Press (KPP) announces a call for chapters for Volume 2 of the critically acclaimed  Urban Operations: War, Crime, and Conflict .1 Urban Operations, Vol. 2 recognizes the  topic’s scale and the ground in need of coverage given rapidly changing technologies and  geopolitics. The world is only becoming more urban with 81% of the human population  concentrated in cities and towns.2 Whether it be the urban implications of contemporary  wars, the implications for cities of the US government designation of drug cartels as foreign  terrorist organizations (FTOs), the reassertion of great power politics and the rise of  multipolarity, etc., there is a need to expand operational and strategic understanding of  urban operations and urban security.3  

Urban operations is a broad topic with many potential interdependencies to explore. These  include, but are not limited to, topics such as potential water wars and their impact on  urban environments, issues of state capacity and democratic governance, criminal  governance, among many other unexpected topics.4 We hope this second volume will  expand on issues covered in the first and explore additional topics. We encourage  submissions on the following issues on urban operations and security: 

• Urban intelligence/counterintelligence 

• Drones (UxS) 

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics in urban warfare 

• Criminal Governance in cities 

• Amphibious conflict in the Urban Environment/Urban Littoral Operations (ULO)

• Urban implications of maritime port security 

• Riverine and Maritime Operations in cities 

• Modern/historical Case studies on urban warfare  

• Urban Civilian disaster response and recovery in cities 

• Urban security implications of mass migration 

• Geopolitics of Urban Security 

• International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in urban conflict 

• Non-International Armed Conflicts and cities 

• Police-Military Interaction in urban conflict 

• Special Operations in the urban environment 

• Subterranean operations 

• Urban Insurgency/Counterinsurgency 

• Urban Climate vulnerabilities and water stress 

• Ukraine, Gaza, and African conflicts 

• Criminal Insurgencies and Crime Wars in cities 

• Terrorism/Counterterrorism in the Urban context 

• Non-International Armed Conflicts and cities 

The topics listed above are not meant to be exhaustive and the editors are open to any  topics with clear urban security emphasis.

o The editors will provide feedback and suggestions for drafts.  

• Deadline for submission of first drafts is 15 January 2027. (Submit to Editors) 

All articles will go through a full peer review. All articles should be in the 3–5000-word range in Chicago Manual of Style (Endnotes).
